The Beginnings of Chwele Community Resource and Peace Centre
Almost 10 years ago the residents of Chwele, Kenya proposed developing a community centre to offer business and vocational services for residents and provide housing for international and local visitors and volunteers.

Construction on the one story site began in early 2009 and through the fundraising and volunteer efforts directed by Grace and Paul, and the Tigard Community Friends Church administrative support, construction was scheduled for completion the summer of 2013 with a festive ribbon-cutting ceremony in August 2013.

The Chwele Friends Community Peace Centre was officially opened on August 17, 2013. The Centre is a tremendous asset to the residents of Chwele community and the surrounding communities of close to 60,000 residents. See programs below:

- Peanut butter Processing
- Hand Crafts
- Public health Education
- Nutrition Education
- Computer Literacy
- Dental Health (2014)
- Youth Leadership Training/Community Service (scholarship driven)
- Peace Programs
- Arts Camp & Cultural Exchange Programs
- Camps, Retreats, Conferences, Social Receptions etc.
